"Demonios y héroes en América Latina" was a Special Topics course taught in the Spring of 2015. In it we studied different representations of transgression through demonic imagery in Latin America. We studied traditions such as "el carnaval del diablo" in Riosucio, Colombia; films such as "El espinazo del diablo"; a play by Salvador Novo entitled "El tercer Fausto"; a gauchesque poem from Argentina known as "Fausto criollo"; nineteenth century short stories by Ricardo Palma, and Twentieth Century short narratives "El vampiro" by Julio Cortázar, and "Barlovento" by Marvel Moreno. We finished the semester reading the novel El anfitrión by Jorge Edwards.
