English version:

In August 2008 or 2009 I went to Chile to present at the JALLA conference on Latin American Literature. I recall being there with my great friends from the U of Iowa doctorate program: Maria Laura and Gonzalo. I also clearly recall reconnecting with old friends from my M.A. studies at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá: Silvia Valero and Germán Diego Castro... I even saw again a student that I had in one of my courses back in 2005 when I taught Romanticism at the Ponti. I also recall having my cousin María Fernanda as my guide through Valparaíso.

As a witness to my visit I here point to a doggie to whom my friend and Chilean host María Laura introduced me. One of many puppies that in Santiago are the owners of sidewalks, and for whom a gentle hand (who very likely shares with them the experience of the Andean sidewalk) makes little vests.
